Tool for Web Programmers
As I mentioned in my previous post, I have download the Aptana IDE and have been testing it out for the past few days. I have only used 20% of what the IDE offers. My first impression is that this IDE is a must have for Programmers who work with Web Technology.
Not only can you work with the standard HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP, you can also write Web Based Applications for the Apple iPhone, Nokia S60 based cell phones and write Desktop Application for the Adobe AIR Framework.
You can preview your work as you write code. This is demonstrated when using the Nokia WRT (Web Runtime). You can see a Nokia Handset with the desired output from your program. You will also find a Database Explorer included in the IDE. You can connect to a MySQL database to view data you will be working with.
The Aptana IDE is a very professional looking IDE. For my PHP work, I had been using as Notepad type software for editing. Now, I have switch to the Aptana IDE because of the real-time preview for both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.
Visit www.aptana.com and download the main software with the plugin for the different Web Technology. Nice IDE to have if you earn money writing software.

Graphics Tablet for Cartoon Painting
Today I got hold of a graphics tablet for my PC. I wanted to get started on computer graphics. The model I bought is the Genius G-Pen F610. The size of the slim tablet is 6 inches by 10 inches. This give me enough space to put a photo on top to trace.
The drawing you see on the left took about 15 minutes to do using the tablet and the included software (PhotoImpact 12 SE).
The first thing I did was put the photo of my baby on the tablet and proceeded to trace the main feature. Once I got the main picture, I then added some color and used the smudging tool to blend the colors. I think the results are ok for my standards.
If you are interested in drawing cartoons, I suggest that you obtain a graphics tablet. The results are fantastic.

Digital Audio Editing
Computers have become very capable at handling video and audio. Twenty five years ago, even the most powerful home computer could only manage to make a couple of beeps. But all that changed in 1985, when the Commodore Amiga 1000 came on to the world scene. For the first time you got 4 channels of 8bit audio sounds, out of the box.
There was a Sampler Software (Sonix) for the Amiga. This software let you record the sound of a single note from a piano and use the sound to calculate the whole 7 octaves range of the instrument. You could record an ‘aah’ into the computer and it would generate a couple of octaves of ‘aah’s for you to use as an instrument. It was amazing at that time. It would have cost you thousands of dollars to have an instrument that was capable of this at that time. But now with the Amiga, you can have bass drums, snares, high hats, saxophones and hundreds of synthesizer sound to create your music master piece right at home.
I could also record narration into my Amiga and edit out mistakes in the speech. This was something wonderful after working with 4 track reels. You know splicing and joining using sticky tape.
Editing audio is a fun job to do. Now, computers are capable of 16bit CD quality sound with more than 16 channels on some systems. You can master a whole recording right at home on a PC and burn your masterpiece to CD.
I like to introduce a useful software that I use for much of my audio work. I use this software for making audio tracks for some of my videos, as well as edit music. Sometimes I used it to correct the volume in a song or soundtrack. The software I am talking about is Audacity. This software is very easy to use. If you would like to create an audio e-book, all you need is a microphone and your PC. Prepare you narration, read into the microphone using the software to record your voice. When finished, go back and edit out all the mistakes and fix the volumes so everything sounds even. You have a perfect recording.
If you get the time, download this software and look for some tutorials on Youtube to help you get started.

‘Make $50K Your First Year’
Today I read a very encouraging article on Yahoo! I am talking about an article by Kara Wahlgren entitled ‘Make $50K Your First Year’. Why was it encouraging? Well the author mentions 7 Lucrative Fields That Don’t Require an Advanced Degree and 2 of the 7 jobs mentioned are, jobs using computers. Reading this, put a big smile on my face.
The first computer job mentioned is Web Designing. The other computer job is Computer Software Engineering.
What is the responsibility of a Web Designer? ‘Designers are responsible for mapping, coding, and maintaining sites for their clients. The position requires exhaustive technological know-how earned oftentimes from a Web design degree program and a creative eye — and if you have both, the payout is rewarding.’
On the other hand, ‘Software engineers use their fluency in programming languages like C++ and Java to build new applications for consumers and clients. They may be hired to design a company’s accounting software or a new virtual game. A bachelor’s degree in a computing field is needed to qualify for the most lucrative job opportunities.’
You can do these jobs on a freelance basis. Websites such as elance.com have jobs posted by individuals and companies up for bid. If you are capable, you can bid on computer jobs and get paid once you have completed the project. Therefore if you have computer skills, you have a good future and a good chance for work.

Increase your Google PageRank
All of us who have blogs, would like as many visitors as possible to come and read our ramblings (heh important information). Visitors come from many sources, but when they come from searching on Google, Yahoo! or MSN, this is really a good thing! Why? Here is someone who is looking for information and they have found your blog. They chose your blog to give them info on whatever they are looking for. Your blog was rated as one of the top sites for the information they were looking for. You see, many people only bother to look at the first two pages of results after they conduct a search on Google and other search software. So, how can I make it easier for people to find my blog on Google?
My investigations reveal that, not only does Google gives weight to the content that you carry, but also checks to see who links to your site. If high ranking sites have links to your blog, your blog becomes important and will appear amongst the top result on search sites. Now this is important to take note of.
One of the best ways to get links to your site and therefore visitors, is to visit other blogs with similar interest to yours and post useful and interesting comments on the blog. You see, when you post a comment, you will also post your web address which will link back to your blog or site. This is seen by Google as a link. Remember the site you post comments on, has to have a good PageRank as well. How will you find the PageRank of a blog?
I found the perfect tool to help me post my comments on high ranking blogs. Visit seopen.com. Once you are there, type in the keyword (something to do with your site or blog) plus the word ‘blog(s)’ to find blogs similar to yours. If they blog allows comments, leave useful and informative comments and you will get visitors who are curious about you, visit your blog. Once they come to your site, it is up to you to give valuable information to your visitors.
I hope this tip will be useful to some of you new bloggers (including myself).

Beware of the “swine flu” virus
Today I read an article on Yahoo! which mentions how some Cyber crooks are capitalizing on influenza fears with torrents of email promising “swine flu” news but delivering malware or dubious offers for potency drugs. They are also sending out message that claim to prevent, treat, or cure” the H1N1 flu virus.
Please be aware of such messages arriving in your e-mail boxes. You may receive e-mails with subject lines such as “Swine Flu Outbreak!” and “Madonna Catches Swine Flu!” in order to grab people’s interest, a tactic referred to by hackers as “social engineering.”
McAfee said it has also seen keywords “swine” and “flu” used to direct Internet users to a Russia-based website booby trapped with a computer virus.
As a precaution update your computer virus protection software and scan all suspicious e-mails. If your would like to read the full article please visit Yahoo!

Promote your Blog or Site with mybloglog.com
Getting people to visit your web creation may at times be a hard thing to do. You may have had the same experience as myself. I spent many hours designing my site until I got it just right. I uploaded the content to my web server and then, waited, and waited. No visitors. You feel kind of lonely you know. Billions of Internet users and not even one person came to visit my site.
I then began doing some research on how to promote my site. I found out, that the first thing I had to do, was to submit my URL or my web address to the three main search companies. Google, Yahoo! and MSN are the major players when it comes to Internet search. Next, I had to promote myself by visiting other sites which have similar content to my site and leave my mark there. How? By leaving behind good, useful comments on other people’s blogs or websites (if permitted), which link back to my website. When others read your interesting comments, they may be inclined to visit your site. Apparently, the more that you post your site’s link on other popular sites, which have similar content, your site will be ranked higher in the Internet Search Services. When people search for something related to your site, your links will appear amongst the top links. A lot of hard work!
Visit www.mybloglog.com to make your job easier. This service is run by Yahoo! to help promote your blog. Once you join, you can link your blogs to this service. It provides you with a control panel that you can log into. There you can find thousands of other blogs. You can search for blogs which have similar content as yours. You can join the community. You can invite members to visit your blogs and sites. It also shows you statistics of the number of visitors, what they clicked on, what they read and what sites they came from. Overall it is a great way to promote your blog. I love it. But remember, to always update your blogs and site. By doing this, people will be inclined to come back for another visit.
